This course explores the application of principles and responsibilities as they relate to the Charter on Medical Professionalism. A review of established and currently accepted fundamental principles of medical professionalism is provided, including an outline of the 10 commitments that must be observed in practice. Information regarding the adoption of the Charter on Medical Professionalism by various professional organizations is presented, focusing on entities such as the American Board of Radiology (ABR). Real-life interactive ethical scenarios are provided, including detailed feedback on the most appropriate ethical course of action, with explanations for each scenario outcome.

Course Learning Objectives:

• Identify the three fundamental principles of the Charter on Medical Professionalism.
• Explain the 10 professional responsibilities (or commitments) of the Charter on Medical Professionalism.
• Apply the 10 professional responsibilities (or commitments) of the Charter on Medical Professionalism in common radiology scenarios, in conjunction with specific material from the American College of Radiology (ACR), including the ACR Code of Ethics.
• Analyze realistic practice scenarios for observation and violation of the fundamental principles and professional commitments.
• Articulate the goal of the Choosing Wisely Initiative, and radiology’s involvement in this initiative.

This enduring material is estimated to take 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete.
